Registration Underway for the 6th Annual Tennessee Basic Economic Development Course (TBEDC)The 6th annual Tennessee Basic Economic Development Course will be held April 30 through May 3, 2012, in Nashville at the downtown Homewood Suites by Hilton. The TBEDC is designed for those who participate in economic and community development at local, state and federal levels, and focuses on the fundamental concepts, tools and practices needed to succeed in a complex economic environment. This three and a half-day course is sponsored by the University of Tennessee Center for Industrial Services and is accredited by the International Economic Development Council and the American Planning Association. Attendees will learn best practices in economic and community development, new methods and programs to promote job growth and investment, discuss emerging trends and factors that shape local and regional economics and develop a network of fellow economic development professionals. Course topics included trends in economic development; marketing and business attraction; business retention and expansion; workforce development; entrepreneurial and small business development; strategic planning; community development; economic development finance; real estate development; and managing economic development organizations. Course fee is $595 for those who register by April 2 ($645 after April 2), and class size is limited to 40 people. The registration fee covers course materials, instruction, off-site tours, networking reception, selected meals, refreshment breaks and recognition reception.
