TEDC Board of Directors - Spring Conference 2002

The Tennessee Economic Development Council Board of Directors met Thursday, April 25, 2002 at the Spring Conference in Destin, Florida. Present were Rhonda Rice, Roger Sigler, Randy Brewer, Janet Miller, G. C. Hixson, Bob Bibb, Steve Hiatt and Heidi Smith.

After hearing a legislative update from Tennessee Association of Business president Dave Goetz, the board learned that TAB had voted March 12 to change its name to the Tennessee Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Goetz also asked the board to consider a financial commitment to a proposed new position at TCCI devoted solely to economic development issues.

Following a recess until Friday, April 26, the board voted unanimously to present a recommendation to the full membership to commit $10,000 annually to TCCI for administrative support of TEDC and another one-year commitment of $10,000 to help support the new economic development position, the latter subject to annual review. Motion by Hiatt, second by Smith.

This recommendation was later approved at the annual membership meeting in addition to the nominated slate of officers and board members for 2002-2003 as follows:

The board also voted to clarify the TEDC by-laws in regard to voting rights. At the Fall Conference, the full membership will be presented with the recommendation that the state of TN rep will be a voting member of the board but the SEDC rep and alternate will not.

In other action, Brewer reported the dates and site for the TEDC 2002 Fall Conference- October 9-11 at the Holiday Inn in Murfreesboro.

Leslie Cooper of Younger & Associates said the new membership directory was near completion, the TEDC web site is current and an updated newsletter would be posted on the web site by the end of May.
