TEDC Board Meeting Minutes
June 16, 2005, TEDC Board Meeting Minutes
June 16, 2005
Conference Call 9:30am (CST)
Board Members present: Kyle Spurgeon, Hollie Holt, Kim Denton, Mark Herbison, Marco Oliveri, Paul LaGrange
Others present: Suzie Lusk
Kyle Spurgeon called the meeting to order.
The purpose of the board conference call was to discuss the TEDC Fall conference location.
A committee was established in 2005 to set criteria for future TEDC conference hosts. If any TEDC member wanted to host a conference, an application will be submitted to the board that will list a proposed date, potential hotels, golf courses in area, activities available and statement explaining why their site is appealing.
TEDC holds the Spring Conference in Destin, Florida each year and the Fall Conference rotates between each Grand Division of the state. The rotation falls to Middle Tennessee for the 2005 Fall Conference.
Criteria and applications were emailed to the membership and deadline was set for June 10, 2005.
At the Spring Conference in Destin, September 14-16, 2005 was discussed because it would not coincide with all the other Fall ECD related conferences.
One application from Fayetteville/Lincoln County was submitted by the deadline. The board discussed their application and the proposed date of October 19-21, 2005.
The board discussed other conferences that were being held during this time period that would be a conflict for our audience. Three additional conferences would be in competition with this conference date.
Email correspondence came from Ted Moore and Jerry Hunt in regards to having the conference at Pickwick State Park. The Inn returned the dates of November 16-19, 2005.
Additional emails, after the application deadline, came from Dickson County who was interested in hosting the Fall Conference. Montgomery Bell State Park did not have the amount of sleeping rooms needed during the September 14-16th time period. They did submit dates of September 5-7, November 9-11, November 14-16, November 21-23 and November 28-30, 2005.
The board discussed the other interested communities and felt that the time of year would hurt registration and the weather could certainly play a part in attendance. The September date seems to be the best time of year to have the conference to avoid all other conferences already planned for the Fall and to avoid the holidays.
The board also discussed that the TEDC Vice President plans each conference. It would make it easier, logistic wise, on the Vice President if they could plan the conference in their grand division of the state.
Mark Herbison has agreed to plan the conference in Memphis and get the rotation back to the area of the Vice President.
During the Fall of 2006, the Fall Conference will go to East Tennessee and in the Fall of 2007, we will return to Middle Tennessee when the Middle Tennessee officer is Vice President and responsible for planning the conference. The board also discussed that we are in Middle Tennessee for several conferences including the Governors Conference, which will be held only two weeks prior to the proposed Fall Conference dates.
Motion made by Marco Oliveri that we move the Fall Conference to rotate to the grand division of the Vice President, seconded by Mark Herbison.
Also, Mr. Don Woolley, husband of TCCI President, Deb Woolley passed away on Tuesday, June 14, 2005. Mark Herbison moved that we send a memorial of $500.00 to the College of the Ozarks, Point Lookout, MO. Second by Kim Denton
Kyle moved that we adjourn, second by Hollie.
