TEDC Board Meeting Minutes
April 4,2007
The Meeting was called to order by President Mark Herbison. Members participating included: Mark Herbison, Doug Lawyer, David Hamilton, Daryl Brady, Paul Latture, Paul LaGrange and Lizabeth Theiss. Suzie Lusk, Sharon Younger, and Kayla Taylor also participated.
Business Items included the following:
Minutes
The Minutes of the January 29, 2007 Meeting were reviewed. A Motion was made by Mark Herbison to approve the Minutes. The Motion was seconded by Paul Latture. The Motion passed unanimously.
Financials
The Financial Statements were reviewed. The Budget Committee will meet to review the 2007 Budget. The Budget Committee will consisit of the President, President-Elect and Secretary/Treasurer. The Committee will look at the 2006 budget and set the budget for 2007. A motion was made by Daryl Brady to approve the financial report as presented. Doug Lawyer seconded the motion which was approved unanimously.
Scheduled Events
TEDC Spring Conference – May 2-4, 2007
Doug Lawyer gave an update for the Spring Conference agenda.
Those invited to speak will be Jimmy Allen with TVA to discuss research capabilities, UTCIS, Jim Slizewski and Beth Phillips, Dave Gladney and Wayne Ziegler with Wastewater Innovations, Del Boyette, Boyette Levy Consulting, Deb Woolley, Commissioner Farr, and Commissioner Kisber.
We are also discussing with the hotel a different menu for the Thursday night event. We will have a reception with heavy appetizers instead of a sit down dinner.
TEDC East Tennessee Regional Meeting
The East Tennessee Regional Meeting was held on March 23, 2007 in Oak Ridge, Tennessee with approximately 40 people in attendance. Guests toured the Oak Ridge facility and Tom Ballard gave a report of the facility.
The Middle Tennessee Regional Meeting was held in earlier in the year. It is time for a West Tennesseee Regional Meeting.
Awards
A new process was discussed on how to to choose our Jim Spradley Volunteer of the Year and the Fred Harris Professional of the Year. New guidelines were also discussed. Another board may be asked to pick the winners. The new guidelines for the nomination process will be finalized by June to send out and place on our website.
We also need additional information about Jim Spradley.
Membership Applications
The following applications were submitted for membership in TEDC:

A motion was made to approve the new members by Doug Lawyer. David Hamilton seconded the motion which was unanimously approved.
New Business
Tennessee Tomorrow, Inc. requested a sponsorship from TEDC for the Basic Economic Development Course offered by the Leadership Center in the amount of $2,500. This will go for scholarships to this course to encourage participation in Tennessee. A motion was made to approve this request by Paul Latture. Daryl Brady seconded the motion which was unanimously approved.
New Board Nominating Committee
A nominating committee was picked consisting of three TEDC past presidents. Kim Denton, Jim Rowland and John Bradley will serve on this committee and announce the nomiations at the TEDC Board meeting in Destin.
Honorary Life Member
Bill Shuff with MTIDA was nominated for Honorary Life Membership with TEDC. An honorary life member must have been an active member for 15 years and should have served as an officer or a director, reached the age of 50 years and made a significant contribution to Industrial Develoment within the State of Tennessee. Bill Shuff will be honored with a plaque at the Fall Conference in October. We also are looking at others who should be nominated as an honorary life member.
The TEDC newsletter will be emailed only in March.
SEDC Summer Conference will be held July 30-Aug 1st
Younger Associates will provide us with a Media Kit in Destin
