TENNESSEE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL
BOARD OF DIRECTOR’S MEETING
TN Dept of Labor & Workforce Development
August 20, 2009

The Meeting was called to order by President Walt Wood.  Board members participating included Paul Latture and Holly Weber.   Joining via conference call are Spencer Sessions, Doug Lawyer and Tim Thompson.   Kayla Taylor with Younger Associates,  Suzie Lusk with the Tennessee Chamber and Joe Brandon with the TN Dept of Labor also participated.

Business Items included the following:

Review of Minutes

The Minutes were distributed from the May 21st Board meeting.  A Motion to Approve by Weber and second by Latture.  The Motion passed unanimously.

Review of Financial Statements

Financials were presented.  Approved by Lawyer with a second by Thompson.  The Motion passed unanimously.

Regional Meetings
The Regional meeting was held August 19th in Chattanooga.  A great program was presented.   The Middle TN Regional meeting will be held September 1st in Murfreesboro, TN.   The West TN Regional meeting will be held in October.

Governors Conference
The conference will be held September 14-15th at Gaylord in Nashville.   TEDC decided to once again have a booth at the conference.   Membership applications will be available.  Board members will help work at booth.   

Past Presidents’ Lunch
We are looking to set a date in early December for a Past Presidents’ luncheon.

UTCIS
UTCIS has requested TEDC to contract with AT&T for meeting space in order to host their Basic Economic Development Course.   We are looking into the insurance portion that AT&T requires.   Approved by Latture with a second by Thompson.  The motions passed unanimously.

Fall Conference
The date has been set for October 7-9, 2009 at the Meadowview Conference Center in Kingsport, TN.  Award nominations have been emailed and mailed to membership with an August 28th deadline.

Nominating Committee
Doug Lawyer met with the nominating committee to fill two vacant slots on the Board
The Nominating committee will present the following slate of officers.
Paul Latture – President
Don Hurst – Vice President
Mike Evans – Secretary /Treasurer
Walt Wood – Immediate Past President
Holly Weber – Middle TN Representative
Spencer Sessions – West TN Representative
Tim Thompson – East TN Representative
Paul LaGrange – State Liason
SEDC Director

This will go in front of the membership for a full vote.

Walt Wood appoints a five member Nominating Committee with the immediate Past President, Doug Lawyer, as chair.  (The committee consists of one current Board Member, One Past-President and one member representing each grand division of the State).
